Know who signed: text codes and photo ID checks

For most documents, a personal link sent to one email address is enough. When the stakes are higher, a lease with a stranger, a large quote, a loan between people, add a second proof. Each check is recorded on the certificate of completion.

Text messages

• Send the signing link by text message, in addition to email. People open texts faster than emails.

• Ask for a one-time code sent by text before the document opens. The certificate records the number it was sent to, partly hidden.

Each text uses one credit. Credits come in packs of 40 for CA$10 and never expire.

Photo ID check

Before signing, the signer takes a photo of a government ID (a driver's licence or a passport, for example) and a live selfie. Stripe Identity checks that the document is genuine and that the face matches. The signer can sign only after the check passes, and the certificate records it.

Each person checked uses one ID check. They come in packs of 5 for CA$20 and never expire. If the envelope is voided before the check starts, the credit comes back.

Privacy

The photos go to Stripe, not into the document. We keep only the result and the check's reference number. Only ask for an ID check when you have a good reason, as Québec's privacy law expects.

Questions

Do the signers need an app?

No. The text code and the ID check both work in the phone's browser.

What if the ID check fails?

The signer can try again with a clearer photo. After three tries, they ask you for help, and you can correct the recipient or send a new envelope.

Can I use them on the Free plan?

Yes. Add-ons are pay-per-use on every plan.
